Grand Slam Sports Bar Grand Slam
is located at 1400
N. Lorraine (620) 728-0425, in Grand Slam plays Wed at 7
pm and 10 pm, and Sun at 4 pm and 7 pm. I
have not played at this location and am unfamiliar with the atmosphere. Their
website can be found at http://www.grandslamhutch.com/ (08-21-07) An update from S. P. Grand Slams is playing Wednesdays
at 7pm and 10pm, and they play Sunday at 4pm and 7pm. It is still APL, but it is run by the venue
(not by Star). It is all non smoking, and very nice place. I have played there a number of times. (12-26-06) A review by R. K.
The Grand Slam bar is the sports bar located in the Grand Prairie
Hotel & Convention Center, Hutchinson. Formerly the Houlihan’s
restaurant, it recently started hosting Amateur Poker League tournaments on
Wednesday nights. Attending for the first
time on December 20 there were 5 full tables for the 7:00 session and 4
full tables for the 10:00 session. Checking the results from earlier
dates the attendance has grown double and then some. The conference
room at the back of the bar was the venue, and it was NON-SMOKING. The
room is narrow so the tables were quite compact. It is a pretty good venue
to play, and it was hopping that night. The diverse crowd was
enjoying the pool tables (except the fellow got whacked with a pool cue and
the fellow who got a free pass to jail for the deed), electronic darts,
and the televisions scattered about. Waitress service was up and
down but friendly, the food decent and fairly priced, and the drink
specials decent. A few people
indulged a little too much in that night's potion special, but if you know
how to adjust your play to the tipsey at the table you can deal with them
appropriately. Bathrooms are located just outside the bar and they take
a bit of a stroll, which can be a problem during breaks if you need to linger
a spell, but they are good sized and clean. Many players play
at McGraws, the Moose, online, and such. I did see APL'ers that used to
play at Sports Nuts when they hosted APL. The few very tight players
who played their cards only didn't fair well because of a fair general level
of skill. Ya did have to work to make it far. © 2005-7 |
