announced that they will be starting (08-15-05) Sharky's
announces that when purchase an appetizer from Sharky's and present your
receipt to the dealer, you will receive an extra $1,000 in starting

People had a
lot to say about Sharky's. So much so that a separate page needed to be
created just to hold all the comments. (the red colored text is editor) (09-05-05) A
report on 6:30 finals tournament from P.S. Players were asked to arrive at
5:30. Tournament was to start at 6:30. With four tables left empty, there
were not enough seats for those who had qualified and arrived for the
tournament by the start time, so there were approximately 40 alternates at
the beginning of play. Three qualified dealers were playing in the
tournament, including two owners. One person who had arrived at approximately
5:45 was seated at 7:14. The last alternate was seated somewhere around
8:00. There was no penalty in chips for alternates. (09-03-05) A
report from P. S. Main tournament Friday - played for a limo ride. They had
been playing for cash on Friday at the main tournament. (08-16-05) A
report from P. S. I went to Sharky's around 6:00, bought an entree, and then
played the 6:30 tournament. I presented my receipt to the dealer who
gave me an extra $2,500 in chips. There was no open grumbling at the
table from those who were at a disadvantage. Purchase of an appetizer
will get you $1,000 additional chips, as will purchase of a beer (extra chips
for a beer bucket no longer accepted) bucket. And I think they said you
could purchase both an appetizer and a beer bucket for $2,000 in extra chips. (08-02-05) A review from B. M. I have played just about
everywhere in town in the last couple of years. I was an avid APL player
falling just short of top 20 in 2004. I went to Sharky's (after my THEN
favorite room was shut down) not knowing what to expect. Sure enough after
the fancy tables, great dealers, and excellent food, I was hooked. The thing
I love about Sharky's is the experience of the large tournaments (mainly
9:30). More than a 140 players on a nightly basis is an awesome way to really
get the great poker vibe. I myself was not impressed with most of the drink
specials but at least they have them. Overall I think Sharky's will become,
if it hasn't already, the place where everyone will play (hopefully one
day they can expand). I know I haven't played APL since the opening
of Sharky's and I recommend it to anyone who may be hesitant. (07-09-05) I played
at Sharky's for several hours, the 6:30 session and the 9:30 session, placed
7th and 2nd respectively. When they ran short of dealers one of the
managers dealt at a table for a while thus reducing the wait to play (Good
Job!) I saw no mistakes from the dealers, everyone was polite and aside
from not quite winning I had a good time. (06-24-05) A
review from R. Q. My mom and I decided to go to Sharky's to play some poker
on a Friday night. We played at 9:30pm and then at midnight. The
first game was a blast, considering I got dealt four aces on the second
hand! (06-20-05) A
review from W. H. I like to play at Sharky's. The biggest
thing I don't like about it is when I order a drink or food I always get
asked "Do you need your change?". Well, yes now
that you ask! I have never had a problem tipping for good service but
that suddenly crosses the line from good service to rude service and it's not
that far up to the bar to get my own drink! The only other thing I would
change is to have more, smaller cash prizes and not so many progressive
tournaments. A reward for that nights play! Over all, my favorite places to
play. The best thing is, no smoking at the tables! (06-19-05) A
note from J. V. a member of Sharky's management. I would like to start
by saying that myself as well as the other partners of Sharky's appreciate
all of the attention you folks have given us. We are finding that the
comments that people leave are very important to making Sharky's the type of
place that the elite of I wanted to
let you know that as you know, our 6:30 pm tournament will be starting on
Monday June 20th and sign up will start at 5:30 and only to the 1st 125
players. NO EXCEPTIONS!! This will be a progressive tournament with the
Grand Prize being $1000 cash, a limo ride to take you on either a
tandem skydive or a solo skydive. All 1st place winners of the nightly
6:30pm tournaments will be qualified to play in the finals of this progressive
tourney. There will be no other prizes for 1st.(isn't the grand, a limo and a
skydive enough) :) (06-15-05) A
report from R. C. Starting soon will be a 6:30 tournament. This will be
a progressive tournament with the top 3 qualifying for the finals on Labor
Day, September 5th. The grand prize is $1,000, also a limo ride to an
airplane and as Mike said "We will push you out of an airplane for some
skydiving" and a return limo ride. The daily tournament winner also
receives a pass [daily?, weekly?, monthly? 6 month?] to anytime fitness. The
catch to this tournament is that it is only open to the first 125 players. So
getting there early is a must. This will be great for all the players who
don't want to stay up till 9:30 to play at Sharky's. So come early, eat
dinner and play some poker. I believe this starts Monday. (06-10-05)
For the midnight game, Sharky's announced a prize of $250. I had to
leave so I am unsure if that went all to first or was split between the top
3. (06-03-05) A
review from D. R. I've played many games at Sharky's, I started playing the
3-6 tables when I first started going there. They've made me angry
since their popularity increased. When I first started going there
wasn't a problem joining a game, all that's changed. They now have
waiting list, their excuse is not enough dealers. I was in the bar and
restaurant business for over 30 years. In the best of the best when I
did work the Managers and Asst. Mgrs. always pitched in when and where ever
needed. They think waiting list are the way to go. I happen to
disagree. If and
"when" I get knocked out of tournaments I want to play 3-6 and they
need to assure us that we can play. I'm not the only person that I've heard
complain about this. One Friday night there were 16 of us wanting to
play....C'mon Sharky's you know you can do it!!! FIX THIS
PROBLEM. Other than
this complaint I can honestly say I love playing @ Sharkys..AND the food is
awesome!! (06-02-05)
Some feedback from an anonymous dealer at Sharky's. I was on
wichitapokerreview.com and am very impressed with your site. I read the
reviews and of course there was the good and bad reviews. I would like to add
comments for the readers of the site from a dealers point of view. I for one am
grateful to get to work in a restaurant where I get to do what I love, deal
poker. I read a review that a dealer was talking about their wages, you the
players should not have to hear that from a dealer. Sure there are a few that
grumble, but then there are others like myself that are satisfied with the
wages and are more concerned with making sure you the players have the best
playing experience. If a dealer grumbles about their wages, for the good of
all, report it to someone, you shouldn't be forced to hear that. It is true
that there are some inexperienced dealers, and hopefully that will change
with time. Please bare with the ones who may make mistakes. Again, your
playing experience is the most important thing, management is there if you
feel errors should be reported. In one review it said a dealer bragged about
being lead dealer because he has 3 years experience, there are no lead
dealers. We are all on the same team, but as with any team, there may be
egos. They say that
tipping is a courtesy and it is. I will close with this, if you come in and
are in a tournament at my table, I want you to have fun and have the best
experience. If you can't afford to tip, you will get treated with the same
dignity and respect that the other 9 players receive. The goal of Sharky's is
to be the best in town, as the shirt says "where the elite come to
play". Any of you who come in are considered elite in our eyes. If you
have a complaint or problem, please see the floor-man, management or anyone
on the staff and we will get it fixed. We appreciate every single one of you
and hope that you enjoy every trip to Sharky's. (06-02-05) A
review from J. H. I thought I might say a few words about Sharkey's. I
like the limit game. It is a great way to learn limit at no cost to the
player. Limit games are in all the Casino's. Good money can be made for those
who want to learn the game correctly. I know it is hard to adjust from no
limit to limit hold-em, but there is a distinct difference. More good hands
can be made with a lot of different cards. Aces, Kings, AK or any high cards
sometimes do not win. More people stay in the pots to the river, so if
premium cards are played (fold the junk) a person can win decent money.
I like that
Sharky's have dealers. I tip the dealers regularly for this service. I think
too many players are not used to someone else controlling the game, and need
to let the dealers do this. The game would go smoother and faster. And, as
always---THERE'S NO SHAME IN FOLDING!!!! (06-01-05) A
review from P. S. Main tournament - top 8 finishers qualified for a
later tournament for Lasik Eye Surgery provided by Dr. Bruce Greene.
First place also won $75 gift certificate for Trey Allen Classic Impressions
photography studio. They had a bounty on a local radio DJ for a T-shirt, but
that became irrelevant because he won the tournament. Sharky's
announced two progressive daily tournaments lasting 8 weeks, one at 2 p.m.
and one at midnight, starting today May 31. Top four finishers each day
in each tournament qualify for the later tournaments with a top prize of
$1,000 at each. No announcement made about other prizes for 2nd,
etc. (05-29-05) A
review from Even though
this is a casino theme restaurant, it has by far the best players in
town and it's the best poker room , with the biggest and most prizes than any
where else in town. If you want people to treat you with respect, courteousness
and friendliness this is the place to be. If you want someone that runs the
games to be non attentive, rude and overall a complete jerk go to Side
pockets, not the short skinny guy, but the overweight jerk on the laptop
hiding in the corners. The guys gives you no respect as a person, and could
careless about doing his job or a poker player looking for a fun game. Please post
my entry on your site or next time I see you at a poker table, I'll be
putting you all in and taking your chips. Ha, just kidding, I just want the
truth about Wichita Poker to finally come out, and this is the update as of
5/29/05, trust me I play everywhere in town, just to check out the places and
players, and I don't even work at any bars or poker rooms. I won't be going
to play poker at anywhere except SHARKY'S from now on. (05-28-05) A
review from P. S. Thursday night midnight tournament prize was 4 tickets to
Aviator's football game. Friday night
- 150/75/25. Midnight tournament $50 for 1st, 2nd was either 2 or 4
Aviator's tickets, 3rd was a T-shirt. During regular tournament they
had some special contests for 4 Aviator's tickets. First they said the
next person that wins with pocket Queens wins 4 Aviator tickets. The
next one was the next person that wins with pocket 10's. Then the
representative from the Aviator's was watching a table that I was at and saw
this guy win a hand on the river, and he went to the staff and put a bounty
on that guy for 4 Aviator's tickets. Rumor from a dealer that they may
experiment with 2 p.m. tournaments. (05-25-05) A
report from G. B. I went to the midnight No Limit tourney at Sharkey’s last
Saturday night and they had 15 tables with 10 people at each table at
Midnight…what a crowd. It was fun…but players were even more aggressive
than APL. I lasted until 1:30 and finally got blinded out. The
blinds were going up every 10 minutes….that’s only about 4 games per
blind. OUCH! (05-22-05) A
report from P.S. Tonight's main tournament - $150 - no second.
Midnight tournament I believe was $100. (05-21-05) A
report from P.S. Sharky's prize for tournament last night $150.
No second. Midnight tournament $25. I think they had just a few
over a hundred show up, less than a week before. (05-21-05) A
report from P.S. Sharky's had a midnight tournament tonight. Prize was
a T-shirt. If they had 50, i believe the prize would have been $25.
They are playing for cash Saturday night and Sunday night. (05-20-05)
A review from ?.?. Went to Sharky's tonight for tournament. Couldn't
catch a hand for about an hour and a half. Hadn't won a pot. Then
won one pot. Then promptly lost all but two $500 chips. Just then it
was time to chip up to $1.000 chips, so I got one chip and I was the small
blind. Then I started winning pots pretty regularly. Ended
up getting 2nd. Tonight first place was a six-months free membership at
the fitness center, and my prize for 2nd place was a one-week free pass to
that fitness center. They had no midnight tournament tonight. After i was
finished with the tournament, I sat in on a 3-6 game. Had a very bad
experience with a dealer. He thought he heard me say "i fold"
so he took my cards away and mucked them. I reached down to get chips
to bet after the turn and he said he had taken my cards because he thought i
wanted to fold. I had bet before and after the flop. And I never
fold that way, I throw my cards in the middle. Then what really amazed
me is that several other players agreed including two people who I thought
were friends agreed with the dealer that I did something I did not do and
never do. Essentially they were saying that I don't know how to fold my
cards which is preposterous. So I will be getting free services from
that dealer from now on (no tips). Had another bad experience Monday night at the midnight tournament when it was time to chip up $500 chips. I had a pretty high stack of $500 chips (reds). I put them in a row in stacks of two with one extra. I recall there being at least 5 stacks of two with one extra. When she chipped me up, she gave me 4 chips, and I said something to the effect of - is that all I get? She said - Yes. I said I thought I had more than that coming to me. Then the two guys seated to my left both agreed with the dealer kind of like it came down tonight. Then she chipped up the two guys to my left. Finally the guy across from me spoke up and said he remembered I had more reds than that. His recollection was that I had 6 double stacks and one odd one. So she ended up giving me 3 more $1,000 chips. At least she was honest enough to admit her error. But I will be receiving free services from her also for awhile. Also the dealer at our first table tonight in the tournament made several errors of carelessness which Chuck (who I'm sure you know from Mamadeux kept catching him on. And he bragged to me that he was a lead dealer because he had been a dealer for two years! My assessment of the dealers is they are young, inexperienced, try to go too fast, and think they are getting ripped off in their wages plus tips. One dealer said today that they promised them the world when they interviewed but clearly they are disappointed with what they are making. I think I heard someone say they are getting $2.10 an hour but don't quote me on that. |
