Kandu Poker

Things to watch out for: Cheating and Collusion

I've been playing Kandu around town and noticed some things at the venues that will decrease or stop me from continuing to play.

Dealers are not getting paid very much (tips only) and dealers not dealing are playing.  Once money is in play, it is in play until a player cashes out.  The only other way for the money to come off the table is via a tip to the dealer.  The potential exists to secure winnings from potential future loss by excessive tipping from non-dealing dealers to the dealer.

I saw excessive tipping (more than $30 for 30 minutes of play) between 2 players, both very aggressive, one of which which would deal later in the day.  Was there collusion? It sure felt like it.  Keeping in mind that two aggressive players can collude by themselves.

The dealer depending upon where he cuts the deck before the deal could make the game predictable, unpredictable or selectively predictable.

In my experience the average person can memorize about 5-7 cards in 2 seconds in some portion of the deck, the trick of course is to know where the cut will be made before the cut is made.  With a bored dealer who cuts about the same every time, players can effectively predict the flop.  I saw one player do this, his only mistake was to call it out, letting everyone know he had the ability.  I made a point to not get into a pot against him

The dealer immediately following was very much a random deck cutter, much to the consternation of the deck counter.  The counter left after recognizing that he would be unable to predict consistently with the new dealer.

A random cut dealer could signal where he was going to cut (to anyone paying attention i.e. the dealer not dealing) during his rearrangement of the cards following the showing of the deck.

Call me paranoid, but these are just the things I saw in a few days of play...that give me pause.

Differences between Kandu and Standard Texas Hold em.
1.)
There are no blinds or forced bets.  Instead of blinds there are ante's to play each dealt hand.
2.)
There is no table rake. There is a time based table fee, usually $2-$10 per 1/2 hour to sit at the table. (Depending on venue)
3.)
There is no unknown or randomness.  Prior to the beginning of each hand the entire deck is displayed face up for several seconds.

All of the other rules are pretty much the same.

Kandu games can be found at

When multiple tables are running they will vary by the buy in amount, identified by minimum/maximum.  Typical amounts are $40/$100 and $200/$500.

Kandu games to this point are no limit and limited to table stakes.

The main differences between these venues are of course atmosphere and the time based table fee.
