NO LIMit hold-em guidelines

No Limit hold-em is defined both by blind structure and table maximums and minimums.

No Limit $1/$2 ($100/$200), has a small blind of $1, a big blind of $2.  Players must bring, at least a minimum of $100 or at most a maximum of $200 to the table.

No Limit $2/$5 ($200/$400), has a small blind of $2, a big blind of $5.  Players must bring, at least a minimum of $200 or at most a maximum of $400 to the table.

Limit Hold-em Guidelines

Limit Hold-em is defined by the betting limits.  For example

Limit $3/$6 has a small blind (sb) of $1, the big blind (bb) $3.  To bet or raise before or on the flop the bet is $3.  To bet or raise after the flop is $6.

Limit $3/$6 is a lower limit than most casino’s like to play.  I have seen the occasional $2/$4 game at the Luxor Poker room in Las Vegas.  The $3/$6 can be found here in Newkirk.

Limit $4/$8 has a small blind of $2, big blind of $4.  To bet or raise before or on the flop the bet is $4.  To bet or raise after the flop is $8.

Limit $4/$8 is more common, it can be found at any poker room in Las Vegas and is a standard low-limit poker game.  Locally it can be found at Harrah’s Prairie Band – Topeka, Harrah’s North Kansas City, Ameristar North Kansas City.  Cherokee Casino Tulsa

Southwind Casino

Southwind Casino is located at 5640 North La Cann Drive, Newkirk, OK 74647 Phone: (580) 362-2578.

The Southwind Casino is a small Native American casino just east of Newkirk Oklahoma.  The best way to get there from Wichita, is to take the Kansas turnpike south out of Wichita, exit at US 166 travel east to Arkansas City, turn south on US 77 to Newkirk, turn left at the stoplight and go ˝ mile east.

The Southwind casino has recently completed its new poker room.  Other parts of the casino remain under construction.   The Poker playing area is located in the center of the room, and they have 8 poker tables available.  (They currently have only 6 poker dealers) The tables are smoke free, and drink free.

They usually offer $3-$6 limit Texas Hold-em and $1/$2 ($100/$200) No Limit Texas Hold-em.  They occasionally offer $2/$5 ($200/$400) No Limit Texas Hold-em at the request of the players.  With the completion of their new room they have expanded hours, and are playing Mon - Fri 4pm-2am Sat - Sun 2pm - 2am.

In my experience, they usually have 2 games going, one of limit and one of no limit.

(06-01-06) A report from R. K.   I visited Kaw Southwind Casino May 26 and was pleasantly surprised to see that not only was it open but 4-5 tables were running.  It appears they have 8-9 tables with blackjack tables set up in the middle of poker area.  They are spreading hand shuffled $3-6 limit and I believe $1-2 NL, although someone mentioned they do have $2-$5 NL at times.

The room is in the center of the most southeastern of the new metal buildings.  It is best to park in the new south lot, which can get you a ride to the casino on a golf cart.  Finding the room from within the rest of the casino is confusing so ask for help.  I did not find rules posted and they do not have a bad beat jackpot.  The biggest barrier to making money is most players only bought in for small amounts. Fortunately the bust-outs were filled quicker than at Harrah's Prairie Band so money did keep coming to the table.

Pit Boss said weekday play has been good since they opened, not just the weekend.  Rake appears to remain at 10% up to $3.  They shut the tables down 15 minutes before the casino closed at 2am.  Openness made it not as smoky as in the bingo hall but there are no drink tables and they don't use cup holders.  Enjoyable place to play.

(02-26-06) A report from J. H.   I just got back from Kaw Nation Casino, it is now called Southwind Casino.  There are a lot of signs in town showing how to get there. It is 1 mile east of the one traffic light in Newkirk Oklahoma. Just one hour, 15 minutes south of Wichita.

The bingo was going on, so the 4 poker tables were just shoved together in the corner. I asked the guard standing nearest the door of the poker corner about their poker. He said, once the new addition is open, March 15 is the date, there will be 12 poker tables, along with several blackjack tables in there. The hours will be longer, and days of the week will be extended. Now the poker is Mon - Thu 4pm - 2am, Thursday 4pm - 4am. Phone number is 1-866-529-2464 and internet is www.southwindcasino.com

I hadn't been there since last fall, food prices have doubled, but pop and coffee is still free. There is a huge new metal building full of new slots. The small metal building are still attached to the bingo hall with several more slots. The other new large metal building is going to be where the poker room will be.

(12-19-05) A report from R. K.  I dropped into the Kaw Casino December 14th to see if, like I'd been told, the new building would be open December 9.  It wasn't, as I expected.  Just as T.G.'s September 9 review mentioned, and as it was when I played over Thanksgiving, the poker area is in the corner of the bingo parlor...playing Monday through Thursday.  Arriving at 8 pm I sat at the only $3-6 table, it was 6-handed while the lone NL table was 5 handed.  I only stayed to play because each player had $120-$250 in front of them so I figured there was money to be made.  I returned nearly $50 on my $80 investment in 2 hrs.  Not a good place if you can't handle smoke.  Toke box fell off one of the cheapo tables while I was playing.  I found the game to be pretty loose passive but got stirred up when a yound NL player joined the fray when the NL table broke.  Solid players can make a couple of extra bucks here.  Toke appears to be about 10% up to $3.

(09-09-05) A report from T. G. I went to Kaw Nation Casino last night.  They have 4 tables but only had 2 in use when I got there around 9:30 p.m. Both were near full. One was a 3-6 table with $30 buy-in (typical buy-in amount for this table). They also had a no-limit table which I didn't play and I don't know the buy-in.  It's typically $100.  There are no signs telling you where to turn in Newkirk so you have to know where to go otherwise you wouldn't know it's there. The casino is a bunch of trailers connected together to make one big maze of slots and card tables.  Although it looks like a hole in the wall place when u first get there.  They've done what they can to make it pretty nice inside.  The poker tables are located in the far corner of the bingo room, which is why there is no poker on weekends.  The guy in charge last night did say they plan to expand to a bigger variety of poker tables once things get rolling.  They also have 2 blackjack tables.
