Prairie Band Casino
Prairie
Band is
located at 12305
150th Road, Mayetta KS 66509. They
can be contacted at (785) 966-7777.
My most recent visit to
HPB occurred in June of 2007. I
arrived around 4:30 pm on a Friday. It
had been several years since my last visit.
They had 3 poker games going, two games of 4-8 Limit Texas Hold-em and one game of 2-5 No Limit
Texas Hold-em. I didn’t bring enough
to play the NL so I sat down with $200 at the 4-8 Limit table. The play was pretty loose with 4-7 players
seeing each flop. I played very tight and pretty much just watched the first
hour. When I started playing I found
that top pair, good kicker or over pair usually wouldn’t win, people stayed
in on draws and frequently got paid off as a result. One of the poker books I’ve read says that
to play limit you need a bankroll of 20 times the big blind for swings of
winning and loosing. I failed to have
that insurance and left after loosing a few hands. I will probably stick with Newkirk next
time.
(05-16-06) A report from R.K.
Some news regarding Harrah's Prairie Band as of 4-23-06. The
poker room very recently swapped spots with the high limit slots, dropping to
4 tables in the process. They still spread NL, $5-10 Omaha H/L (which
people like to play because people think they have a better shot of hitting
the bad beat jackpot), and $4-8 hold-em. I've played in their Sunday NL
re-buy tournaments twice in the past few weeks and, because of the low
starting chips and 20-minute rounds, it quickly becomes a luck not a skill
game. Check their website for their WSOP Satellite tournaments into
Limit, Women's, Razz, and other events. Lots of complaints about it
being no-fold em hold em. I disagree, other than it being fairly
passive loose pre-flop unless you handle your position raises right.
Being shorthanded for dealers can backlog the wait list on weekends,
especially Friday nights
