Ute Mountain

The Ute Mountain casino is in Towaoc, Colorado. 1-800-258-8007   (970) 565-8800.

(05-31-07) A review from R. K. I visited Ute Mountain Casino Memorial Day night, May 28.  Very little has changed from that review.  I did not arrive until after 11pm, and there was only a $2-5 spread limit dealer's choice game going...and it was 3-handed.  Normally they shut the game down when they get below 4-handed but they were allowing a local to play his 6 hrs to get his free meal!  Players could choose Hold'em, Omaha High, or Omaha 8 or better.  The button posted the only $2 blind while selecting the game.  That fellow was short-stacked while the other two competitors were flush.  After I joined we at times were even 5-handed.  Within 45minutes I was up $100 and when the game finally broke another 45 minutes later I was up a few dollars shy of $150.  The people and staff were very nice.  One note, the Hold'em game, even short handed, still was a bingo player's game...very passive loose preflop.  People stayed with their draws even by the turn at times.  Hard to push off hands.  The Omaha games the play was still passive loose, but the game clearly was not my opponent's best game.  A good place to play if you have skill at the Omaha games when it's dealer's choice night.

(01-15-06) A review from R. K. I visited the 5-table poker room at Ute Mountain Casino at Towaoc Dec. 26 & 27, 2005.  Like other casinos in Colorado, the poker cash game is a $5 max bet game usually in the form of a $2-5 spread game.  Unlike most other casinos in Colorado you can find yourself playing 7 Card Stud, and Omaha/Hi-Lo.  Nearly a year ago I found myself at a player's choice table where the button chose the game.  I entered a Limit Hold'em tournament on the 26th and played a cash $2-5 game afterwards and on the 27th.  All poker rooms have their own tournament rules and processes and this room had its share of them, be sure to know all of them before playing, especially the rebuy  rules...which are very liberal.  The bad beat jackpot has as lenient of standards as I've seen anywhere and my cash game table nearly hit it twice (uncooperative river card).  As with most places the cash games of tournament day are more difficult...very loose aggressive.  A day later, with no tournament on the schedule, is varied between passive tight and loose.  Could actually bluff from time to time.  Table side food service, free booze.  Smoking allowed, but it wasn't overpowering.  The room is located just as you enter the casino from the hotel, which has nice rooms to crash in.  $2.99 breakfast specials don't hurt too.  Good place to play!
